Back in 2011, I started having the fascination for long and thick eyelashes. I was so attracted to them that I ended up wanting to have one myself. My eyelashes were okay back then – it wasn’t long and thick enough to be noticed, though. So I went on to try eyelash extensions for the very first time. I read that it can make eyelashes grow long and thick. Luckily, I managed to pull them off on the first try. Unfortunately, that would be the last time that I’d ever worn lash extensions, as I suffered from itching and burning during the entire 48 hours that I had them on. I finally removed them on the second day. It turned out that my eyes aren’t suitable for fake lashes.
I was frustrated at that point because I really wanted to have those long and attractive lashes. However, as what my dermatologist said, “Beauty has a price, and sometimes it’s going to be too expensive for us to afford.”
That whole disaster with using lash extensions didn’t stop me from my obsession, though. So, I looked into other ways I can enhance my thin lashes. The next product that I bumped into was Latisse, which is a formula specifically for providing longer and healthier lashes. It does have really great reviews and feedback on the internet. However, I personally struggle with applying it every single night, as I am way too busy to even think about removing any makeup that I already have before I hit the snooze button, let alone apply a serum of Latisse along my eyelids.
So I looked at other options again. Finally, I started leaning towards natural remedies for problematic eyelashes. Thankfully, I found some to be promising. Check them out:
Green tea is an excellent remedy for growing healthy-looking eyelashes. It contains flavonoids, a natural plant chemical that supports the hair growth. To apply, dip a cotton swab in green tea and carefully stroke it over your eyelashes. The tea will immediately work to stimulate lash growth. Also, it helps clean the follicles, which will give way to the production of healthier and thicker eyelashes.
Lemon + Olive Oil
Lemon and olive oil are a dynamic duo for growing long and healthy-looking eyelashes. Olive oil properties that help improve the condition and overall length of your eyelashes. It can also help protect your eyelashes from damaging and brittleness. Lemon, on the other hand, acts as an enhancer to the already healthy properties of olive oil. Lemon essential oil is a natural antimicrobial and antiseptic agent that helps prevent the production of disease-causing microorganisms and promote a robust growth of eyelashes. Soaking lemon peels in olive oil for a few days is a good alternative if you don’t have lemon essential oils at home. To apply, stroke a mixture of both olive oil and lemon to your eyelashes before going to bed. Don’t forget to rinse and remove in the morning.
Medical experts have also found brushing to be an effective eyelash growth stimulator. Brushing your lashes twice a day – in the morning and during bedtime – will help stimulate healthy eyelash growth. The act of brushing also works to evenly distribute the natural oils found on your eyelashes, keeping them healthy and tough.
Homemade Eyelash Thickening Serum
The fourth tip I want to mention is a secret homemade eyelash thickening potion. It’s effortless to prepare, and ingredients are super-easy to find. So this serum is made with a mixture of coconut oil and a small drop of essential oil. Coconut oil contains beneficial fatty acids that help strengthen your eyelashes. The essential oil (preferably lavender) will provide some additional nourishment. Just mix them all together, and you’ve got your very own homemade eyelash serum. To apply, roll a mixture carefully onto your lashes. Now using your finger (make sure it’s clean!) gently massage the serum into the lashes. Take good care as not to get some of your concoction in your eyes.
In our final tip, we’ll turn to your eating habits. Eating a healthy diet that’s high in vitamins and protein will promote eyelash growth. Foods that are rich in protein and vitamins that will help produce healthy and long lashes include the following:
Fish (Salmon), beans, eggs yogurt, and green veggies. The proteins found in soy are also beneficial for eyelash growth stimulation.
My discovery of natural remedies marked the end of my eyelash-enhancing journey. Finally, I now have some immediate solutions that are not only cheap but are also super-effective. This quest made me realize that you don’t have to spend a lot of money on non-organic serums or artificial fixes just to get the best lash results. The only things you need are the all-natural remedies mentioned above, some patience, and optimism to get the job done. I hope these tips would work wonders for you as it did to me.
